Below is a message that was sent to Wayne Hasson at Aggressor from Bill Oakes after an inquiry caused another
The email was in response to this post on Cyber Diver scuba-forum.com website:
The
Maldives Aggressor blew up but the divers are OK... Rumors are flying that the Maldives Aggressor blew up on Monday, with all divers safe. Can't find any news anywhere about this, but it's a pretty solid source |
Wayne,
I'm writing you to address your concerns over a "post" at cyberdiver, regarding my having "posted" incorrect information. Unfortunately, you were caught up in an incredible act of invasion of privacy, at best.
A few months ago, I received a frantic phone call from an employee from another store, telling me that they'd just heard that the Aggressor had had an explosion in the Maldives, and that their father had been on board - could I find out anything further? I sent a PRIVATE email to the editor at Cyberdiver, asking if they'd heard anything, because I couldn't find anything on the Internet. I signed said email "Bill". I used my former email address, bill@cadive.com. This editor, for whatever reason, went to www.cadive.com (since sold), looked up my information, and posted a portion of the PRIVATE email, and signed it with my full name and PADI information (which was available at cadive.com).
I learned of this a few weeks ago, and was simply floored. I can't conceive of why this individual would misrepresent something so poorly, and I do apologize to you for ending up as a part of it. I haven't been back to that site, and given the ethical nature of the editor, I find no possible reason to go back to it.
Incidentally, the actual boat that did have an explosion, and did sink, was the Giulia. Here's a link to the story.

Bill, thanks for sending this to divepoll.com. I hope this is a lesson to all about where CDNN.info get's there "news". They will publish anything about anybody regardless of who it comes from, without any verification.
